THOUSANDS of households are being urged to check their garden waste subscriptions or face overflowing bins and missed collections this summer.
Wiltshire Council has issued a reminder to residents that garden waste subscriptions expire on June 30 with customers needing to renew by Saturday, June 27 to avoid any disruption to fortnightly collections.
The warning comes as demand for the service remains high, with council crews collecting more than 26,000 tonnes of garden waste from over 80,000 households across the county in the last year alone.
For many households, the service is a summer essential, helping dispose of everything from grass cuttings and hedge trimmings to weeds, leaves and cut flowers.
A yearly subscription costs £78 per bin, with all collected waste composted locally before being reused.
Residents who pay online should already have received an email reminder, while households without registered email addresses are being contacted by letter.
The council said renewing online is the quickest option, though customers will now need to log into – or create – a Wiltshire Council account as part of new security measures.
Households are also being reminded to make sure bins are clearly marked with a house name or number, as collection crews now use in-vehicle technology to confirm which properties have signed up to the service.
Cabinet member for environment, climate and waste Cllr Paul Sample said the scheme continues to play an important role in recycling and reducing waste across the county.
Residents can renew online or by phone. Those who do not wish to continue the service do not need to contact the council.
