SALISBURY Baroque is promising a night of “extravagant sound” when the city’s only period-instrument orchestra brings a celebration of Handel to Wilton later this month.
The orchestra will perform Baroque Extravaganza at Wilton Parish Church in West Street on Sunday, June 28 at 6pm with a programme packed featuring some of George Frideric Handel’s best-known works.
Directed by Theresa Caudle, the concert will showcase an expanded line-up of period instruments, including baroque trumpets, horns and timpani, alongside strings, oboes, bassoon, harpsichord and organ.

The programme includes Water Music Suite II in D, the Organ Concerto in F, HWV 293 with soloist Nigel Gardner, and will end with Handel’s spectacular Music for the Royal Fireworks Suite in D.
Miranda Dodd, violinist and chair of Salisbury Baroque, said: “We’ve called this concert ‘Baroque Extravaganza’ because it is a truly flamboyant celebration of Handel’s music.
“With oboes, horns, trumpets, organ and timpani joining the orchestra, we’re planning to produce an extravagant sound!
“We perform with instruments as they would have been in Handel’s time, so audiences will hear the music in a way that the composer might have expected.”
Tickets are £15 in advance and £17 on the door. For more information and tickets, visit www.salisburybaroque.org.uk
