Salisbury plumbing firm plans extension to showcase renewables

A SALISBURY plumbing firm is hoping to build a new renewables showroom and training centre.

Aquatec has applied to Wiltshire Council for permission to build a two-storey extension on its Newton Road premises.

The build, which it is estimated would take around five weeks, would see around 60sqm of new space, the application, prepared by Atlas Planning Group, said.

“The proposals are necessary to provide an addition to the current Aquatec showroom to display new technologies to meet the growing demand for renewable energy and heating products,” it said.

“Aquatec is a large supplier to plumbers and heating engineers within the Salisbury and south Wiltshire area, and they have identified that there is very little understanding as to how emerging technology, such as air source heat pumps, work, or should be fitted and repaired,” it added.

“As a result, most installations in the area are currently being undertaken by large national businesses or energy companies.”

The new showroom would allow customers to find out more about renewable technologies available, as well as offering training facilities to “local tradespeople, which will help return business to Salisbury rather than outsourcing to national businesses and energy companies”, the plan said.

“Overall, this seeks to decrease the carbon emissions from residents and businesses in Salisbury,” it said.
