Sarum u3a talk to explore historical fashion

THE next Sarum u3a meeting will explore women’s undergarments and how they were a necessity – not just a fashion choice.

The talk by Sarah Slater, entitled Kirtles, Corsets and Curtains, is taking place on October 15 at 10.30am at St Francis Church.

Sarah will also discuss how current affairs often had an influence on fashion, archaeology and more.

Sarum u3a secretary Lesley Waller said: “Sarah’s talk covers her personal journey into learning about historical fashion and dressmaking, then she finishes by dressing a mannequin in the layers of a 1790s gown.

“This talk is not just fashion and dresses, it’s so much more and we do think that the men will enjoy it just as much as the women, it has previously received great feedback.

“Members and guests are warmly welcome to attend the meeting which will start at 10am with coffee. Guests are invited to join Sarum u3a after two visits.”

Sarum u3a is an organisation which welcomes people no longer in full time employment to come together to learn, laugh and live.
