Bricks, slashed tyres and a high‑speed chase lead to jail

A SALISBURY man has been jailed for 28 months after a series of terrifying attacks on a woman and her family left them living in fear.

James Stockwell, 32, of Friary Lane, pleaded guilty to four counts of criminal damage and dangerous driving at Salisbury Crown Court on Friday.

Stockwell’s offences included throwing bricks at the windows of his victim’s home and that of her family, as well as slashing the tyres of their vehicles.

His actions caused significant fear and disruption to the lives of those targeted.

The events escalated on February 21, when Stockwell was seen leaving the scene in a BMW.

Police tracked the vehicle to a layby in Ower, but when approached, Stockwell drove off, prompting a high-speed pursuit.

He eventually crashed into a tree and fled on foot before being arrested.

Sgt Megan Peroni described the shocking level of risk to the public: “Stockwell’s string of offending was targeted and left his victim living in fear of what he may do next.

“When officers attended the scene of the criminal damage on February 21, enquiries led them to believe that Stockwell had fled towards Southampton along the A36 in a dark coloured BMW.

“When located, Stockwell drove off and was witnessed driving in a dangerous manner. His actions behind the wheel were extremely dangerous and showed a complete disregard for the safety of other road users.

“During the pursuit he crossed solid white lines, drove through red traffic lights at speed and ignored road signs, putting members of the public at serious risk.

“It is sheer luck that nobody was seriously injured as a result of his reckless behaviour and desperate attempt to evade police.”

Stockwell’s conviction sends a clear message that targeted intimidation, criminal damage, and dangerous driving will not be tolerated in Salisbury.
