Four cars destroyed in suspected arson attack in Salisbury

POLICE are investigating a suspected arson attack after four vehicles were destroyed in an early-morning fire in Salisbury.

Emergency services were called to Middleton Road at around 3.45am this morning (Friday, June 12), after reports of vehicles on fire at industrial premises.

Initial enquiries suggest two Mini Coopers, parked around 200 yards apart, were deliberately set alight.

The fires are believed to have spread to nearby vehicles, leaving four cars extensively damaged.

Fortunately, no injuries were reported, and the blaze did not spread to surrounding buildings.

The incident woke several nearby residents as firefighters and police rushed to the scene in the early hours.

Insp Chris Wickham said officers are carrying out enquiries to establish exactly what happened and who may be responsible.

He said: “The fires were reported to us at approximately 3.45am this morning – several residents were awoken by the fires and attendance of emergency vehicles, which understandably caused concern within the community.

“Enquiries to identify any potential suspects are ongoing and we are engaging with local businesses and residents to establish any security systems, CCTV or doorbell footage which could assist our enquiries.”

Police are appealing for anyone who may have seen suspicious activity in the area overnight, or who may have CCTV, dashcam or doorbell footage, to come forward.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Wiltshire Police on 101, quoting log number 29 of June 12.

Information can also be passed anonymously to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
