YOUNG visitors to Stonehenge will get the chance to swap screens for saws this half term as the hugely popular ‘Playhenge’ adventure playground returns to the world-famous site.
Running throughout the May half term holidays, the hands-on attraction lets children build giant wooden structures using real hammers, nails and tools – all inspired by the teamwork and ingenuity behind the construction of Stonehenge thousands of years ago.
The experience, created with constructive play specialists Woodland Tribe, proved a hit with families when it launched and is now returning for a third year.
Rather than a finished playground, Playhenge becomes an ever-changing creation shaped entirely by the imagination of the children taking part.
English Heritage says the activity is designed to encourage creativity, confidence and teamwork while giving youngsters a rare opportunity to use real tools in a safe environment.
Julia Richardson, operations manager at Stonehenge, said: “Since introducing Playhenge in 2024 we’ve received fantastic feedback from parents and children alike.
“We’re delighted to bring it back for a third year and see what can be achieved when visitors let their imaginations run wild. We hope our visitors will connect with the spirit of Stonehenge in taking part and hopefully make some unique memories along the way.”
Playhenge will run from Saturday, May 23 to Friday, May 29 between 10.30am and 5.30pm.
The activity is included with standard admission to Stonehenge, while English Heritage members can take part for free.
The event is suitable for children aged four and over, although youngsters must be accompanied by an adult.
