A PUB has been filled with song, laughter and what participants are calling a “singer’s high” after a new community initiative brought strangers together through music.
Sing#Inn, launched by music facilitator Asta Hodgson, made its debut at Deacons on Fisherton Street the day after St Patrick’s Day, attracting more than 30 people for an evening of relaxed group singing.
There was no stage, no pressure and no need for experience – just a room full of voices coming together.
On the night, participants learned the Irish classic Whiskey in the Jar in three-part harmony, with organisers focusing on connection and enjoyment rather than performance.
The response was immediate.
Many who arrived feeling unsure quickly found their confidence, with the pub soon filled with sound and energy.
By the end of the evening, several described leaving on a “singer’s high” – a mix of joy, achievement and shared experience that organisers say is at the heart of the project.

The pub soon filled with sound and energy.
Asta said: “It was fantastic to see so many people come along and try something new. Some were quite apprehensive at first, but very quickly there was a real sense of joy in the room.
“By the end, people were singing together with confidence and creating something genuinely special – that’s exactly what Sing#Inn is about.”
As well as bringing people together, the event also gave a boost to the host venue, highlighting how community-led ideas can support local businesses.
Now, plans are already in place to grow Sing#Inn into a regular feature across Salisbury, popping up in pubs to give people a chance to unwind, meet others and rediscover the simple pleasure of singing together.
The next event will take place at The George and Dragon on Castle Street on Wednesday, April 29 at 6.30pm, with a “rivers” theme.
If the first night is anything to go by, plenty more voices will be joining in.
