Vulnerable man beaten and robbed in shocking Salisbury attack

A MAN who brutally attacked and robbed a vulnerable victim at a food bank in Salisbury has been jailed.

Aaron Martin, 38, of no fixed address, appeared at Salisbury Crown Court on April 9, when he was sentenced to 33 months in prison after admitting robbery.

He was also handed a six-year rehabilitation order.

The court heard how the incident unfolded at around 7pm on August 12, 2025, when the victim was visiting a food bank in the city centre.

Martin punched him multiple times before stealing personal belongings, including his mobile phone – leaving him unable to call for help.

In a particularly distressing element of the attack, Martin then removed the victim’s trousers, further humiliating him.

The victim, who has limited physical mobility, suffered facial injuries and has been left deeply shaken by the ordeal.

In a victim impact statement read to the court, he said: “The attack has left me very fearful and full of anxiety. Every time I go out, I fear that I will be assaulted again. I feel in a permanent state of anxiety where I fear what might happen.”

Police said Martin was aware of the victim’s vulnerabilities at the time of the assault.

Local crime investigator Beverley Sargent said: “Martin was aware of the vulnerabilities of his victim yet continued with his attack, leaving him injured and unable to call 999 for help.

In his impact statement, the victim described how the incident has left him fearful of going out and about because of Martin’s actions. This is unacceptable. I hope this custodial sentence given to Martin enables his victim to feel some form of closure.”
