A WEATHER warning has been issued for Sunday (December 18) which covers the Salisbury area.

The yellow warning, from the Met Office, predicts rain falling on frozen surfaces will cause disruption to travel.

It is in force between 3am and 2pm.

A forecaster said: “A period of rain and snow mixed falling on frozen surfaces will lead to icy conditions causing some travel disruption.”

The Met Office said residents can expect:

* Some injuries from slips and falls on icy surfaces

* Probably some icy patches on some untreated roads, pavements and cycle paths

* There is a chance that road, air and rail services could be disrupted or delayed

It comes after a week of freezing temperatures across the Vale reaching -7C on some days.

However, things are set to improve slightly in the coming days.

A forecaster said of Friday night: “A continued risk of showers overnight, though these confined to the coasts.

“Dry inland with clear skies and light winds, leading to a sharp frost and patchy freezing fog. Minimum temperature -6C.”

On Saturday, they said: “Showers easing through the morning leaving a dry and bright day for most, particularly in the west.

“Becoming cloudier from the west later with winds increasing by late evening. Maximum temperature 8C.”
