Global urban scenes go on display at Salisbury gallery

A NEW photography exhibition is set to bring striking urban scenes from around the world to the heart of Salisbury this summer.

From May 9, The Young Gallery will host the Mick Maslen Urban Photography exhibition – a free showcase featuring a diverse collection of images exploring city life, texture and form.

Running until August 29 in Gallery 2, the exhibition draws on the gallery’s extensive permanent collection, which includes more than 200 photographs by Maslen.

Many of his works capture the detail of everyday surfaces and spaces, offering a fresh perspective on familiar urban environments both in the UK and overseas.

Visitors can expect a mix of bold compositions and subtle visual details, all reflecting Maslen’s distinctive eye for pattern, structure and atmosphere.

The exhibition is designed to appeal to all ages, with a free family trail also available to help younger visitors explore the artwork in an interactive way.

Deputy leader of Wiltshire Council Cllr Mel Jacob said: “To see such an exhibition right on our doorstep is a fantastic opportunity, and with the family trail available as well, the Young Gallery offers so much to keep all ages entertained and engaged.”

Curator and gallery manager Dr Emily Dunbar added: “This exhibition offers a unique opportunity to see Maslen’s photographic works and the textural scenes he captured across the world.”

With no booking required, organisers are hoping the exhibition will draw in both art lovers and curious visitors looking for something different in the city this summer.
