Golfers go above par for charity in Salisbury

GOLFERS teed off for a good cause in Salisbury as dozens of players swung into action for a charity day that was well above par.

Sixty golfers from across the region gathered at Salisbury and South Wilts Golf Club for a morning of friendly competition and fundraising in support of the Multiple Sclerosis Society.

Players travelled in from clubs including Southampton, Bramshaw, Canford School and South Winchester, starting the day on a high with coffee and pastries before heading out onto the course.

From the first drive to the final putt, the event proved a hole-in-one for fundraising.

Cash was raised through a mix of creative efforts, including a lucky squares competition, a produce stall and a popular halfway hut where golfers could refuel while donating to the cause.

Halfway hut provided refreshments – donations invited!

There was also a greener twist to the day, with a rail of pre-loved ladies’ golf clothing available in exchange for donations.

The initiative is part of the club’s push to be more environmentally conscious while still delivering on charity efforts.

Ladies’ captain Julie Savage said: “We are trying to ensure that our golf club is as environmentally sustainable as possible.

“Re-using and recycling are an important part of this. Clothing surplus to one lady’s wardrobe can be used by someone else and our charity benefits too!”

Despite grey skies overhead, spirits stayed firmly in the fairway. The overcast conditions did not put players off their game, with many praising the quality of the course and the atmosphere throughout the day.

Overcast conditions did not dampen enthusiasm.

By the final hole, it was clear the event had scored on every level – bringing together the local golfing community, raising vital funds and proving that when it comes to charity, Salisbury always plays a winning round.
